Republican allies of Donald Trump, who had claimed President Joe Biden would be “high-wired” on stimulants and “performance-enhancing drugs” during Thursday night’s debate, have now suggested “vitamins” may give Biden an unfair advantage over someone who would otherwise become dementia-ridden.
Rep. Nancy Mace (R-South Carolina) introduced the latest MAGA-world devil in an interview with Newsmax on Thursday morning, just hours before Trump and Biden faced off in the first presidential debate.
When asked what “Joe Biden” he thinks we’ll see on the debate stage, Mace said his questions are, “How much Adderall are they going to give him? How many vitamins are they going to take?”
“How long did you nap today? I’m kidding but I’m serious. Am I going to yell into the microphone again like I did during the State of the Union? That was ridiculous and out of hand,” she said.
She argued that Biden’s performance would depend on “how effective the drugs are to keep him awake on stage,” repeating a mantra that has taken hold among Republicans as the debate draws near. Trump himself has often fantasized about Biden taking drugs to help him clear his head, even claiming earlier this week that doctors would give the president a “shot up the butt” just before the debate began.
The theory has grown after Trump and his allies spent weeks portraying Biden as an infirm old man who could not string together sentences, but the portrayal could backfire if Trump is outdone onstage.
MAGA Republicans have previously offered a dizzying array of explanations for Biden’s successful performance, ranging from secret drug-laced medical “experiments” to steroids and Adderall, or simply copious amounts of Mountain Dew.
