Updog StudioUpDog, an exercise studio offering Vinyasa yoga, mat pilates, and barre classes, will open in late summer or early fall on the second floor of 2672 Broadway (between West 101st and 102nd Streets). This will be the second location for UpDog, which also has a studio on 145th Street in Harlem. UpDog is owned by fitness-loving married couple Nicole Pavone and Jordan McLaughlin. They will open their Harlem storefront in March 2023 and are excited to expand to the Upper West Side. “At our Harlem studio, we’ve created a warm and welcoming environment for our community to practice, and we want to bring that same community to the Upper West Side,” Pavone told West Side Rag. Class packages or monthly memberships are available for purchase. They offer classes for all levels, from beginner to advanced. Robofun, a STEAM education program, was previously held in the space. Epilogue BookEpilogue, a pop-up shop selling used books, opened on June 25th at 2305 Broadway, between West 83rd and 84th Streets. WSR representatives say the books are sourced from a variety of sources, including public school and library book sales, and they hope to keep the books in circulation instead of ending up in the trash. In the same environmental spirit, a portion of the proceeds will be donated to One Tree Planted, a non-profit that plants trees around the world. The pop-up shop’s inventory includes a curated selection of the owner’s favorites (the owner wishes to remain anonymous), as well as a wide selection of coffee table books and children’s books. Epilogue will only be open this summer and is scheduled to close at the end of August. The space was previously a Blue Mercury cosmetics store, Closed April 2021. Weekday opening hours are 10am to 6pm. Weekend opening hours are yet to be determined. For the latest information, please contact InstagramWe accept donations of books in good condition. LionheartThe gym, which offers group classes and personal training, is expanding into the basement of its current space at 237 West 105th Street between Broadway and Amsterdam. According to an Instagram post by the company, the expansion will double the gym’s current size and create space for new equipment, including two squat racks, a leg press machine, and dumbbells. A rep confirmed to WSR that construction could take several more months, but an exact opening date is still unclear. We’ll provide an update as it nears completion. The basement space was formerly home to the Abbey Pub, which operated as a bar for many years. Closed Nearly 50 years have passed since then in 2018. (Thanks to Tracy for the tip.)
