NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — Construction is nearing completion on Cornell Scott Hill Health Center’s new Recovery and Wellness Center. After a decade of planning, project officials say the benefits the center will bring to the community will be well worth the wait.
The center will provide comprehensive mental health, addiction, medical and dental services to patients. Cornell Scott Hill Health Center CEO Michael Taylor says seeing the final plans for the Recovery and Wellness Center come to fruition is like a dream come true.
“As substance use disorders continue to rise across our New Haven communities, we are excited to be able to serve a community where there is a statistically clear need,” Taylor said.
The state-of-the-art 31,000 square foot building will house a 40-bed men’s dormitory and a unique 12-bed women’s dormitory. Once construction is complete, the dormitory will feature an employee training room, exercise space, laundry facilities and designated quiet areas. The building will also feature a large group therapy room, dining room and commercial kitchen.
Dr. Ese Tek, CSH-HC Director of Behavioral Health, said the center’s layout will contribute to a multidisciplinary approach to addiction treatment.
“Addiction is a complex disease. It touches on medicine, behavioral health, mental health, holistic approaches and traditional addiction treatments like what’s called group therapy and relapse prevention. This new campus allows us to offer everything we think is needed for addiction treatment,” Dr. Teck said.
The center will also offer outpatient services, ensuring patients have a support system they can rely on no matter where they are in their recovery. The center is just one example of CSH-HC’s commitment to improving the lives of those who live and work in the region.
“We’re a community-driven organization. Everything we do at Cornell Scott is driven by the needs of the community, so for us it’s a great honor,” Taylor said.
