Pune: A study conducted by medical experts in Pune has found that Ayurvedic treatment combined with mental hygiene practices, a ‘sattvic’ (purely healthy) diet and a proper lifestyle can effectively tackle genetic disorders that cause male infertility.
The study, published in the international medical journal ‘Journal of Reproduction and Infertility’, highlights the potential benefits of Ayurveda in treating genetic defects in sperm.
Infertility is a major modern problem, with the World Health Organization (WHO) reporting that 17.5% of couples worldwide experience difficulties conceiving.
In about 20-35 percent of these cases, male factor infertility is the cause, with sperm defects being the main culprit. One of the major issues identified is “sperm DNA fragmentation” (SDF), which is considered to be a serious condition.
Although assisted reproductive technologies (ART) are commonly used in modern medicine to treat such cases, they are not always effective and leave some couples with no solution.
A study led by Vaidya Vinita Bendale of the Dyumna Women’s Clinic in Pune, which also included Vaidya Shri Lakshmi Chaganty, Vaidya Rutuja Pandav and Vaidya Deepali Pawar, has shown that Ayurvedic treatment is effective for these patients. The study was published in an international journal.
Potential causes of SDF:
-
Psychological stress
-
Infection
-
Air pollution
-
Drug abuse
SDF impacts:
-
Sperm DNA Fragmentation
-
Increased male infertility
-
Preventing natural conception
Case Study:
Patients over 40 years old who were diagnosed with SDF and had failed modern medical treatments sought help from Dyumna Women’s Clinic. Dr Vaidya Vinita Bendale conducted a thorough evaluation of the patient’s medical history based on Ayurvedic principles.
Treatment included Rasayana (rejuvenation) and Basti (medicated enema) therapy and detailed records were kept throughout the treatment process. After four months, medical tests confirmed that the SDF deficiency had resolved.
“Considering the patient’s psychological state and adopting appropriate diet and lifestyle changes can speed up the success of fertility treatment. Importantly, the Ayurvedic medicines used have been proven safe through rigorous research.”
