Studded with creamy burrata and summer tomatoes, this pasta salad is ready in 30 minutes and sure to please. The combination of juicy tomatoes and balsamic and white wine vinegars makes it bursting with fresh, vibrant flavor. Rich burrata adds creaminess to every bite, but in a pinch, fresh mozzarella torn into bite-sized pieces will do the trick. This Caprese Pasta Salad recipe requires only a few ingredients, so it’s important to buy the best quality you can get your hands on to ensure maximum freshness and flavor. Serve this salad at your next barbecue or bring it to a potluck party – it’ll be gone in no time!

Why is it called Caprese Pasta Salad?

This Caprese Pasta Salad is a take on the traditional Caprese salad, which has its roots on the Italian island of Capri. (“Caprese” loosely translates to “from the Island of Capri.”) Caprese salad traditionally consists of slices of tomato, slices of mozzarella cheese, sweet basil leaves, and is often drizzled with olive oil. Some versions also add balsamic vinegar. This pasta salad incorporates all the traditional elements of a Caprese salad, with the addition of satisfying pasta, a tangy vinaigrette, and crunchy pine nuts.

What is Burrata?

Burrata is an Italian cow’s milk cheese, but is also made in the United States. It is shaped like a ball and has a similar flavor to traditional mozzarella, but a different texture. It has a soft exterior, whereas mozzarella is firm, and is filled with a mixture of curds and cream in the center. When you tear a burrata, the inside pours out in the best way possible. It is rich and creamy, and goes well with all kinds of salads and pizzas. Do not cook or cut the burrata. Serve it in pieces, or break a ball and have your guests snip off a corner or spoon out a little of the creamy center.
