While Yoga Day was celebrated across the world yesterday and many celebrities posted about what yoga means to them on the day, we tracked down some Bollywood divas who have made yoga a part of their lifestyle. From Kareena Kapoor Khan, Aalia Bhatt and Deepika Padukone to Ananya Panday and Rakul Preet Singh, these celebrities especially swear by yoga. If there is one person who knows this for sure, it is celebrity yoga trainer Anshuka Parwani. In an exclusive interview with NDTV’s Abhira Dhar, Anshuka detailed the dedication her first student, Kareena Kapoor, put into her health journey and how Deepika Padukone’s yoga routine was drastically altered to coincide with her pregnancy. When asked what is the best part of being a celebrity yoga coach, Anshuka replied: “Seeing their discipline first-hand. It’s unparalleled. My first student was none other than Kareena Kapoor Khan.” So, I remember being up with her. Because I was often outdoors with her. I’d wake up at 4 a.m., do a yoga class from 4:30 to 5:30 a.m., then I’d come home and rest and have breakfast, and she’d be shooting all day. That kind of hard work and discipline is tenacious. I see that in everybody.”

Anshuka Parwani added, “I recently went to the BAFTA Awards with Deepika Padukone and she was packed into a session even before a busy day travelling from here to London. I admire the way they manage their time and it’s a skill I would love to adopt.”
Talking about Aaliyah Bhatt, Kareena Kapoor and Deepika Padukone’s favourite asanas, the celebrity wellness coach said, “Of course, you know Aaliyah’s pose. It’s become very famous. Aaliyah loves Kapotasana, she has a deep back.” [Deepika Padukone] She loves inversions. Kareena Kapoor… I think Surya Namaskar is perfect for Kareena because I remember the first time I mentioned that Kareena Kapoor did 100 Surya Namaskars, people came together and did it. And even though it had been going on for hundreds of years, that became Kareena Kapoor’s Surya Namaskar.”
The wellness coach revealed that there’s one asana that these divas “hate,” saying, “It depends on the day, but I’m someone who says that the asanas I don’t want to practice are the ones I most need to do. So, the asanas keep changing.”
Anshuka Parwani added that postures like Balamari Pranayam, Anulom Vilom and leg up wall asanas are great for stress management.
Listing out the three most difficult asanas that Bollywood stars have conquered with her, the yoga trainer said, “Sirshasana, headstand number one. Arm balances, there are many more. Bakasana, the crow pose, is second and then Kapotasana, the Arya pose. This is a very difficult advanced asana but she does it with such grace.”
Anshuka said that she loves doing inversions but which asana she likes best varies from day to day. About that, she said, “After going upside down, I feel so good. I can’t do it.”
The celebrity coach spoke at length about how Deepika Padukone’s yoga routine has changed drastically compared to earlier days. Gerayayan It takes a few days for her to adjust to each trimester of pregnancy. “We are looking at it very holistically right now. Now that she is carrying our child, we are watching her very closely. Of course, we are constantly going through her pre-natal routine with her, making sure each trimester is different, to set her up for a very healthy baby.” To find out more about Deepika’s pre-natal health journey, click on the link below.
