Jenny Slate is someone we admire for her confidence and honesty. We admire her ability to speak openly about difficult times. Remember how authentic she was after her breakup with Chris Evans? Because she’s incredibly smart, self-aware, and transparent. (Can we be best friends?) Recently, Fixed-line phone The actress decided to open up about something she hasn’t spoken much about until now. Saturday Night Live.
Not surprisingly, Slate struggled after the experience. Her self-esteem was seriously affected and she developed severe stage fright. What did she do to get back to her old self? Interestingly, Slate says she turned to a hypnotherapist. Hmm.
In a recent interview of GuardianShe explains:
“Performing has always been an innocent, energetic joy for me, but after I was fired once, I developed a particular kind of stage fright. A narrative was born in my mind that said, ‘These people don’t like you, they don’t want you here, and even if magic happens when you’re onstage, it’s not going to happen tonight.’ My whole self-esteem was put to the test. I didn’t want to quit stand-up comedy just because I was fired from one job, so I resisted it. I went to a hypnotherapist. It sounds crazy, but it worked.”
Slate says she has been able to recover from the experience since seeing a hypnotherapist.
“It was embarrassing, sad, humiliating and an unfortunate mistake. But a lot has happened since I made that little mistake. If I were a man, I feel like I would have to speak up a little bit, but because I’m a woman, I have to speak up. eternally“I want to honor all the good things I did intentionally, not the stupid things I did wrong 10 years ago.”
I have to admit that I don’t know much about hypnosis beyond the stereotype of chaise lounges and swinging pocket watches. According to the American Psychological Association, hypnosis was once controversial, but “most clinicians now agree that it is an effective and powerful treatment technique for a wide range of conditions, including pain, anxiety, and mood disorders. Hypnosis can also help people change habits, such as quitting smoking.” Interesting, right?
I’m so glad you were able to overcome your stage fright and get back to performing and doing what you love! Whatever it is, just go for it!
