Hollywood, Maryland – On Friday, June 21, the Southern Maryland community is invited to join in on the first-ever “Namaste Neighborhood Yoga with the Horses” event, relaxing while doing yoga with horses at Greenwell State Park.
The event is a collaboration between My Happy Yoga Place and the Greenwell Foundation, and will showcase simple yoga practices for people of all levels and abilities, according to My Happy Yoga Place CEO Alaina Rodriguez.
All proceeds from the event will benefit the Greenwell Foundation, allowing them to continue their important work supporting people of all abilities in our Southern Maryland communities.
Rodriguez said the Greenwell Foundation is a local nonprofit that serves the needs of the community by offering a variety of programs, including summer camps, horseback riding for veterans and guided outdoor activities.
Much of the funding for these programs comes from donations and other programs and events, such as “Namaste Nays Yoga with the Horses.”

Rodriguez initiated the partnership to support the foundation and raise awareness of the organization.
When Rodriguez came up with the concept for the event, she was inspired by a request from her students to do yoga with animals, and she chose horses because she believes they have a special aura that can be felt.
“Horses are very intuitive and can really sense a person’s energy, so doing yoga in this beautiful setting with these majestic animals will be so much fun,” Rodriguez said.
Rodriguez hopes the event will bring the Southern Maryland community together and help them understand the need and importance of health and mental health, according to James Vasquez, spokesman for My Happy Yoga Place.
Yoga is a beneficial practice for mental health, and the calming presence of a horse can enhance overall enjoyment.
Rodriguez said she hopes people who have never tried yoga realize it’s a wonderful, peaceful practice and experience the physical and mental benefits it can bring, including improved strength and mobility, as well as meditation and regulating breathing.
“We really hope people come, have fun and leave feeling relaxed and at peace,” Rodriguez said.
The event schedule is as follows:
6:30pm – 7:30pm Participant check-in
7:00pm – 7:15pm Welcome message
