There are two times each year when the Sun is furthest from the equator: once in winter and once in summer. During these times, people all over the world experience the shortest (winter) and longest (summer) days of the year. These two events are called the winter solstice and summer solstice, respectively.

Because these two days affect the amount of daylight we experience, many people believe these days are important to people and that the summer solstice may have some spiritual meaning. Read on to learn what these days are and how you can spend your next summer solstice to honor their meaning.

Many people consider the summer solstice a time of spiritual awakening.
