Mumbai: Chaturmas begins on Ekadasi of Shukla Paksha of Ashadha in the Hindu calendar. It is clear that the word “Chaturmas” refers to a four-month period dedicated to Lord Vishnu. According to tradition, Lord Vishnu goes into a deep meditative state during Chaturmas. This is the period when he hands over his responsibilities to Lord Shiva. As a result, during Chaturmas, Lord Shiva and Goddess Lakshmi are also worshipped along with Lord Vishnu.
