Interested in finding ways to maintain physical, mental and emotional balance? The Provost’s Office and Rice University Recreation Employee Wellness Team are here to help, introducing Wellness Wednesdays, a campus-wide wellness promotion.
“As you may recall, Paula and I hosted the inaugural Stride Out Stress Walk/Run for faculty and staff on April 26,” said Rice University President Reginald Desroches. “Wellness Wednesday is an extension of that effort, providing an opportunity for faculty and staff to come together each month to refresh and rejuvenate.”
The inaugural Wellness Wednesday will be held June 26 from 12:15-1:00 pm in the Gibbs Recreation & Wellness Center’s Multi-Activity Court. Facilities and Capital Planner Elmer Whitehead will lead a 30-minute beginner’s Tai Chi wellness experience practicing controlled breathing, gentle stretches and a mini-series of slow standing postures. No recreation center membership or experience is necessary. Equipment will be provided and early arrival is encouraged.
Our next event will be held next Wednesday. Event notifications will be sent out one week in advance.

“This initiative is dedicated to employee well-being and focuses on a holistic approach to health and wellness,” said Bacardi Bonaparte, associate director of employee well-being at Rice University. “The series highlights many opportunities for employees to engage with university leaders in a variety of ways.”

“I look forward to working with you all to promote a healthier Rice community,” Desroches said.
