Germantown, Maryland, June 17, 2024 /PRNewswire/ — HealthWell Foundation®HealthWell, an independent nonprofit charity providing financial assistance to uninsured Americans, today announced the launch of a new fund to provide financial assistance for vitamins and supplements to patients with congenital metabolic or genetic bile acid deficiency. Through the fund, HealthWell will provide up to $1,000 It provides assistance to eligible patients with an annual household income up to 500 percent of the federal poverty level for copays for vitamins and supplements prescribed to help manage a medical condition.
Bile acid disorders are a group of rare metabolic disorders characterized by defects in the production of bile acids (compounds found in the liver that facilitate bile flow and excretion and aid in the intestinal absorption of fats and fat-soluble vitamins). When abnormal bile acids accumulate, they can cause damage to certain organ systems. If untreated, some forms of the disorder can be life-threatening.
