Germantown, Maryland, June 17, 2024 /PRNewswire/ — HealthWell Foundation®HealthWell, an independent nonprofit charity providing financial assistance to uninsured Americans, today announced the launch of a new fund to provide financial assistance for vitamins and supplements to patients with congenital metabolic or genetic bile acid deficiency. Through the fund, HealthWell will provide up to $1,000 It provides assistance to eligible patients with an annual household income up to 500 percent of the federal poverty level for copays for vitamins and supplements prescribed to help manage a medical condition.

Bile acid disorders are a group of rare metabolic disorders characterized by defects in the production of bile acids (compounds found in the liver that facilitate bile flow and excretion and aid in the intestinal absorption of fats and fat-soluble vitamins). When abnormal bile acids accumulate, they can cause damage to certain organ systems. If untreated, some forms of the disorder can be life-threatening.

“We are pleased to add this fund to our expanding portfolio of vitamin and supplement assistance across multiple disease areas as we continue to identify and implement new programs to help underinsured patients,” he said. Allan Klein“Patients with inborn errors of metabolism or genetic bile acid deficiency often experience malabsorption of nutrients and a buildup of toxins in the body,” said Dr. John Myers, Chief Development Officer at HealthWell. “Some patients with this disease may not be able to access or afford essential vitamins and supplements. We are pleased that our dedicated donors understand the financial hurdles these patients face and can provide them with the resources they need to access life-changing vitamins and supplements.”

To check eligibility and apply for assistance, visit HealthWell’s Inborn Errors in Metabolic or Hereditary Bile Acid Deficiency Vitamin and Supplement Fund page. All new fund openings and reopenings are posted on the HealthWell website. 11:00 a.m. EDT (8:00 AM To learn more about HealthWell’s programs and robust sickness fund portfolio, visit HealthWellFoundation.org.
