Skretting has introduced AmiNova, a new feed formulation concept that brings an even greater level of precision to fish nutrition.
Protein is essential to fish nutrition. Each protein is made up of a unique balance of amino acids, each of which serves a specific function in fish nutrition. Traditionally, aquaculture feeds have been formulated based on crude protein, followed by digestible protein.
With AmiNova, Skretting has introduced a new formulation method based on the ideal digestible amino acid profile. By assessing the total amino acid levels that fish can effectively consume and removing unwanted excesses, fish nutritional needs are met with greater precision and efficiency.
“Our research and development has shown that Aminoba helps fish retain nutrients more efficiently while maintaining their performance,” said Ramon Fontañillas, lead scientist for shrimp and warm water fish species nutrition at Skretting Aquaculture Innovations. “Tests with salmon and trout have shown that farms significantly reduce nitrogen emissions into the environment.”
It took Skretting three years to develop AmiNova.
“Skretting has a long history of breakthrough innovation,” says Alex Obach, Director of Innovation at Skretting. “Concepts such as Microbalance, N3 and FLX have enabled us to reduce our reliance on fish oil and fishmeal in feed formulations, and we also launched Infinity, a salmon feed that is 100% marine-free. Once ingredient flexibility was achieved, it was a natural move to focus on precision nutrition to reduce emissions. Aminoba therefore represents the next natural step on this journey, and we are excited to introduce it to our customers and continue to support sustainable aquaculture practices.”
The first feed formulated by Aminoba is expected to be available in the Chilean salmonid market in the third quarter of 2024, with further distribution planned for additional species and countries in 2025.
