Q1. Fashion is important to your public persona, but how much do you enjoy fashion? What role does fashion play in your self-expression and confidence?

Mira Kapoor: Fashion to me is a blend of practicality and self-expression and is mostly driven by mood. When I’m in a rush, I opt for simple, comfortable and loose-fitting outfits; when I’m not, I plan thoughtfully and enjoy accessorizing. I believe what you wear reflects your emotional state. I prefer to keep my style minimal and carefree, and it’s pretty consistent: easy-going, down-to-earth, everyday girl style.
Q2: With being constantly in the public eye, how do you maintain a sense of self and integrity in the face of external expectations? And how do you balance self-care with the well-being of your family?

Mira Kapoor: I come from a close-knit family of five with two older sisters and loving extended family. They have always been my safe place, providing comfort and nurturing. After I got married, this sense of security extended to my husband and in-laws, who also showered love on me, making it easy to drown out a lot of the noise. Though I am in the public eye and the criticism can feel overwhelming, I find strength and support from my family. During difficult times, they boost my confidence. I try to emulate this approach with my children, endeavoring to give them the same unwavering love and values that my parents instilled in me. I want my children to know that they are loved unconditionally and that they do not have to live up to other people’s expectations. My parents’ strong values are the foundation of their children’s self-esteem.

Q3: Many people associate self-care with skincare and beauty. What does self-care mean to you? How do you prioritize it on a daily basis?
Mira Kapoor: I believe that self-care, as a concept, is extraordinary and needs no explanation. For me, self-care is about feeling beautiful, accepting myself, and starting the journey to be the best version of myself. Beauty, health and wellness are all about ensuring this. Physical fitness in the gym, mental health through mindfulness, and confidence through beauty, all these things make me feel beautiful from the inside out. Self-care is about listening to my skin, listening to myself, embracing beauty and using self-awareness as confidence.
Q4: You recently launched a skincare brand, how do you balance your work and family responsibilities and do the best in both? Tell us about your journey from being a mother of two to being an entrepreneur.
Mira Kapoor: My entrepreneurial journey began with juggling home life and motherhood and has since evolved into a new chapter. While my kids and family come first, I recently co-founded Tira Beauty and Akind. This journey has been a special experience as it required my full attention and dedication as it is my third child and a talented team at the same time.
Q5: Speaking of skin health, it’s not just about using products, but also diet and exercise. What are your thoughts on this? Are there any specific foods or nutrients that you include in your daily diet to maintain healthy, glowing skin?
Mira Kapoor: I agree. Healthy eating is important. I follow a vegetarian diet rich in vegetables and plant-based proteins, which I consider a holistic approach. Apart from a healthy diet, exercising, getting enough sleep, and staying well hydrated are also essential. But all of this can go to waste if you don’t take care of your skin every day. I have a consistent skincare routine that addresses a variety of skin concerns.
Q6: How do you manage your energy levels throughout the day and what are some key strategies or habits that help you maintain your energy and focus?
Mira Kapoor: I’m not one to follow trends, and over the last eight or nine years I’ve developed a routine that works for me: I start my day by soaking raisins and almonds in water, followed by a spoonful of ghee and coconut water. Girl Ka Kana (Home-cooked meals) and I do splurge every now and then. I think a vegetarian diet helps me do that.
Q7: As someone who stays true to themselves and doesn’t follow trends, who are the people or influences that have shaped your perspective on overall wellbeing, self-care and health?
Mira Kapoor: I was lucky enough to have my family, especially my mother and sisters, inspiring me and shaping my views before the age of social media. They instilled in me strong values. While social media gives me inspiration from people I look up to, my main inspiration for health, beauty and personal actions comes from my mother. However, I enjoy following certain people whose content resonates with me. One such person is my close friend and experienced beauty editor Vasudha Rai, with whom we regularly share new habits. I am also grateful to Sangeeta Khanna, who focuses on integrative nutrition and promotes local foods and habits.
Q8: Finally, what is the quote that drives you every day and motivates you to perform at your best?
Mira Kapoor: It’s simple: “Be yourself.” This has been on my Instagram profile since the beginning and it’s been my personal motto.
