The series is sponsored by Kelowna-based company, Fit Nutrition.
In the latest episode of this series, Tania Gustafson of Fit Nutrition and Jim Csek of NowMedia discussed three things that have a huge impact on a person’s health.
- stress
- sleep
- processed food
The two began by talking about processed foods and how lucky the Okanagan Valley is to be surrounded by so many orchards and farms.
“When you get vitamins and minerals from fresh fruits and vegetables, your body doesn’t have to filter out the toxins that are in the processed foods, chemicals, dyes and preservatives in the first place,” Gustafson said.
Gustafson then explained how stress affects the body and how differentiating between important and urgent things can help mitigate the problem, adding that an individual’s nutrition can also impact stress levels.
Elaborating on the third point at the beginning of the episode, Gustafson explained various ways to improve your nighttime sleep.
Her main recommendation was to avoid looking at phones and other screens right before bed.
Gustafson recommends dimming the lights in your home to signal to your body that it’s time to sleep.
“The light coming from this device, from your phone, or even when you’re in bed watching a movie, that light is telling your brain, ‘it’s time to wake up,'” she explained.
