Browns Hotels & Resorts CEO Exas Wijeratne said Sri Lanka was yet to properly tap into the rich and rapidly growing global market for Ayurvedic wellness.
He was speaking at the opening of Ayugiri Ayurveda Wellness Resort, a luxury Ayurvedic wellness resort in Sigiriya last week.
“Wellness tourism has consistently outperformed the overall tourism industry for over a decade, reflecting growing global interest in travel that goes beyond leisure to provide rejuvenation and overall wellness,” Wijeratne said.
He said the industry is worth about $812 billion a year and is growing at 12-14 percent annually.
Browns Hotels & Resorts has fascinatingly reimagined luxury wellness tourism with the unveiling of the stunning Ayugiri Ayurvedic Wellness Resort, Sigiriya, which is selling for around US$450 per day with wellness packages that herald a new chapter for Ayurvedic wellness tourism in Sri Lanka.
“Sri Lanka earned about $2 billion from tourism last year and is targeting $4 billion this year. Through Ayugiri Ayurveda Wellness Resort, we hope to contribute to achieving this goal,” Wijeratne said.
Set across 54 acres, Ayugiri has 22 en suite rooms and stands out as the only luxury Ayurvedic wellness resort in the country with plunge pools in every room, making it truly one of a kind.
The guest of honor was Japanese Ambassador Kotaro Katsuki, and senior officials from the French Embassy were also in attendance.
“Our strategic expansion into wellness tourism at Ayugiri Ayurveda Wellness Resort Sigiriya marks a milestone for Browns Hotels & Resorts.
“By blending the timeless wisdom of Ayurveda with modern luxury, we aim to set a new benchmark in luxury wellness tourism in Sri Lanka,” Wijeratne said.
Browns Hotels & Resorts, the leisure arm of Browns Investments, the investment arm of the LOLC Group, has a large real estate portfolio across many parts of Sri Lanka and the Maldives.
