New Jersey-based Asbury Park Brewery has used artificial intelligence to create its latest beer, AI-PA.

The 6% ABV beer was created by Asbury Park Brewery’s head brewer, Chris Vaughan, who used AI to create the ultimate hazy IPA recipe.
Vaughn explained that he made “a few tweaks” to perfect AI-PA’s recipe, and that he was impressed with its “citrus, mango and pine notes.”
talk Beverage BusinessAsberty Park Brewery founder Bob Macklin said, “AI-PA is a New England-style hazy IPA, dry-hopped with heavy doses of Mosaic, Amarillo, Citra, Centennial, Eureka and Lemon Drop hops. I think there are others trying similar AI experiments with beers and liquors. It changes the way you approach the recipe, so you come at it from a different angle. It’s been a fun experiment, but we like human-made beer best.”
Using AI to brew beer or suggest recipes is something we’ve seen in the industry before, such as AB InBev’s Beck’s Autonomous, which was released last spring.
Asbury Park Brewery’s release was well-timed, as it joins a growing trend toward AI, a trend that is expected to become more important to brewers in recent times, especially since scientists discovered how to train AI to identify flavor compounds in beer to predict which beers consumers will most like to drink.
Asbury Park Brewery is historically known for its connection to music through its venues, but it has also earned a reputation in the industry for being forward-thinking and always on top of the times when it comes to understanding the zeitgeist of what consumers want.
AI-PA is served at the brewery’s tasting room in Asbury Park, New Jersey, USA. Other well-known beers from the brewery include Sea Dragon and Watermelon Summer.
