BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA, FL – Why do we need Mental Health First Aid? Workplace stress. Family obligations. Unforgettable negative memories. Everyone faces personal challenges and is on the road to recovery and healing.
Sometimes we don’t know what to say or do to offer support, or even where to turn when we’re struggling, but if we know what to do and say, anyone can make a difference in the life of someone with a mental health or substance abuse challenge.
That’s why UF/IFAS Extension offers an Adult Mental Health First Aid course.
The course will be held at the UF/IFAS Extension office in Cocoa (3695 Lake Drive) on July 11 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Just as CPR helps people with no clinical training help someone having a heart attack, the MHFA course helps people understand the signs and symptoms of mental health issues and teaches participants a five-step action plan for supporting someone in a mental health crisis.
We will also discuss the importance of self-care and how to plan for when you need it most.
In just 12 years, Mental Health First Aid has become a full-blown movement in the United States, with over 2.5 million people becoming Certified Mental Health First Aids, and that number is growing every day.
All participants will be required to complete a 2-hour self-paced online assignment before attending the course. On the day, participants will participate in 5.5 hours of instructor-led, face-to-face training.
Registration fees start at $65.
