isHeilman is no stranger to cooking in front of the camera.

Heilmann, a German-American from Armstrong County, is one of eight contestants who will share their roots, home cooking and culinary skills. The amateur chefs, from diverse cultural backgrounds across the US, filmed for a month last fall on a farm in Nashville, Tennessee.
Following handwritten recipe cards handed down for generations, Heilman will attempt to wow the judges — award-winning Los Angeles-based chef Tim Hollingsworth, host of the public radio show “The Splendid Table” Francis Lam and successful Texas restaurateur Tiffany Delee, a fan favorite from Season 7 of “Top Chef.”

Heilman said, Pittsburgh Dish Podcast (I was philosophizing about burgers during the most recent episode!) He’s not planning a big viewing party: He plans to relive the experience on the small screen while texting the other contestants and sharing homemade meals with his husband, Greg Weimerskirch.
“Great American Recipes” Green Door GourmetThe 350-acre agritourism park on the outskirts of Music City is a place Heilman feels right at home, having grown up on a farm in Kittanning.
By the time she was in grade school, she was making spaghetti dinners for her family using vegetables and herbs from her garden. She studied nutrition at Penn State, but, except for a stint cooking cheesesteaks at the campus cafeteria, she left the food industry for a career in mobile phones.
“Cooking has always been a relaxing creative activity for me,” he says.
Friends and relatives frequently asked him for meal-preparation tips, so he began filming the process and posting the videos to YouTube. The Doug Cooking brand grew, and Heilman found himself appearing on KDKA’s “Pittsburgh Today Live” preparing Thanksgiving dinner with his mother.
PBS discovered him on social media.
