Walking meditation has been practiced for centuries in many parts of the world and has been used as a healing tool by people from many spiritual and religious traditions, as well as by people who simply want to “feel better.”
By combining the daily activity of walking with awareness of breathing, one’s body’s movements, and one’s surroundings, mindful walkers quickly experience a deep sense of peace and belonging to the natural world. This simple discipline provides a valuable enhancement to the long-established benefits of walking as an exercise.
Start this lovely activity with a leisurely loop around Jack’s Beauty Ranch, then, if you wish, take a moderate 4-mile hike through the trails of Jack London State Historic Park to experience a deeper meditation. Your guide, Jeff Falconer, will begin your trip with a brief overview of walking meditation and then lead you through a standing meditation to help you calm and center yourself before you set off.
The meeting point for the event is the Ranch Parking Lot. Participants should turn right after passing the admission kiosk. 2400 London Ranch Rd, Glen Ellen, CA 95442.
Please note: Most of this walk is over uneven ground. Please wear sturdy shoes and bring water. The walk will be cancelled in case of heavy rain.
Admission: The event is free with $10 park admission. More information and registration available here.
