On Sunday, June 9, 2024, Trinity Presbyterian Church on Darley Road was packed.
Brad Martin and Barbara Price Martin
This was the final service officiated by the church’s pastor, the Rev. Brad Martin, who, along with his wife, Barbara Price Martin, have provided pastoral care to Trinity Church congregations for more than 30 years.
The two announced their retirements earlier this spring.
In addition to his role at Trinity, Martin also serves as the Wilmington Fire Department chaplain for many years.
Martin has been a mainstay of the fire service for much longer than he has been at Trinity, working at the fire alarm to hand out refreshments to firefighters: water when it’s warm, coffee when it’s cold.
He helped provide spiritual guidance for the fire department following the deaths of three firefighters at Camby Park in 2016 and in 2021 celebrated the WFD’s 100th anniversary.
““Pastor Martin has dedicated countless hours to the Wilmington Fire Department over the past 30 years,” said Chief John Rooney, “His dedication and passion to provide unwavering support for our firefighters and their families has been unwavering, through good times and bad.”
Dozens of city firefighters attended a ceremony with fire engines to mark Martin’s retirement from Trinity. Martin will continue to serve as WFD’s chaplain.
