ChennaiTamil Nadu Health Minister M Subramanian on Tuesday inaugurated the Yoga and Naturopathy unit at the National Centre for Senior Citizens in Guindy. He said that the practice of yoga benefits people of all age groups but is especially beneficial for senior citizens.
He also said naturopathic treatments can help relieve pain in the elderly, including yoga therapy, massage therapy, steam baths, banana leaf baths, mud baths, magnetic therapy, colour therapy, hydrotherapy, natural herbal remedies, acupuncture, acupressure and aromatherapy.

The health minister said a day’s stay in a hospital room would cost Rs 900, including food provision.
The hospital treated 37,811 outpatients, as well as 1,198 inpatients in total.
So far, 985 people have recovered from intensive care and 220 surgeries have been carried out in the hospital.
Diagnostic procedures included 1,046 CT scans and 761 blood tests.
Additionally, 10,155 people received physiotherapy and 393 benefited from psychiatric services at the hospital, the minister said.
“As for the hospital, essential medicines worth Rs 1 crore have been stocked. Besides, a new library has been opened in the hospital so that senior citizens can read books. Indoor sports equipment like carrom board and chess have also been provided,” M Subramanian said.
