of The United States Agency for International Development has appointed Nollywood actress, Chioma Chukwuka Akpota as Nigeria’s first Nutrition Goodwill Ambassador.
According to the agency, the partnership is aimed at raising awareness on the critical issue of malnutrition affecting millions of Nigerians, especially women and children.
The event took place recently at the US Consul General’s Residence in Ikoyi, Lagos and was attended by thought leaders, actors and other entertainers.
As the Nutrition Goodwill Ambassador, Chioma Chukwuka Akpota said she would work to raise awareness on maternal health and child nutrition, promote healthy behaviours and spread key nutrition messages.
In her opening remarks, USAID Mission Director Melissa Jones said, “Chioma embodies the essence of advocacy and activism. Her commitment to maternal health and children’s well-being is a mission, and she uses her platform to give a voice to the voiceless and inspire action and change.”
“We congratulate Chioma Akpota on this partnership, it marks a milestone in our commitment to work with the Nigerian people.
“Nutrition plays a vital role in the overall health and development of Nigeria, particularly the youth. By harnessing and making the most of its talents, Nigeria can pave the way for greater prosperity and progress.”
Expressing his enthusiasm for the partnership, Akpota said he was “honoured to be appointed as USAID’s first Nutrition Goodwill Ambassador in Nigeria.”
“Maternal and child health is an issue close to my heart and I am committed to using my platform to raise awareness and inspire positive change.
“By working with USAID, we can make a lasting impact on the lives of Nigerian families.”
