BISMARCK, N.D. (KXNET) — On the morning of Saturday, June 8, the Dakota Horizons Girl Scouts group hosted a health fair open to the community.
“This is our first annual event,” explains Rose Powell, Scouts’ director of community and member engagement, “and it’s an event we thought would be beneficial for the Bismarck community.”
The event featured a total of 24 booths covering all areas of wellness.
“We offer everything you can think of from health to body to mind,” Powell continues, “and we also have a Girl Scout table where girls can see what Girl Scouts has to offer over the summer.”
But there’s more to the Girl Scouts program than selling cookies and getting badges, and Powell adds that being involved with the organization is very rewarding.
“It’s a great opportunity to camp out and meet new friends,” said Junior Girl Scout Kaitlyn Presszeler.
“Girl Scouts is definitely an interesting program,” Powell concludes. “It has so many different aspects, from STEM to the outdoors to entrepreneurship to social activities, and it’s all about forming meaningful connections. The biggest thing we’re known for is, of course, entrepreneurship, which is a lot of fun. But now that it’s summer, we’re doing outdoor programming right now.”
These outdoor programs include camping starting next week. Girl Scouts who attended the event today received a badge as a participation award.
