Cauvery Hospital in association with Hindu Wellness Series organised a webinar on the four pillars of atrial fibrillation management on Friday. Controlling the rate and rhythm of atrial fibrillation and reducing risk factors were discussed during the webinar.
During the webinar, experts said atrial fibrillation is the most common heart rhythm problem, which causes the heart to beat faster than normal. Age, high blood pressure, obesity and sleep-disordered breathing are possible risk factors.
Four experts including S. Deep Chand Raja, consultant cardiologist and clinical lead cardiac electrophysiologist, Cauvery Hospital, Chennai, and T. Joseph, consultant interventional cardiologist and electrophysiologist, Cauvery Hospital Heart City, Tiruchi, spoke about various aspects of the case.
Srinivas Rajagopala, Head, Pulmonary and Sleep Medicine Department and Head, Transplant Pulmonology and Pulmonary Failure Unit, Cauvery Hospital, Chennai, and Sivarajan Thandeswaran, Senior Consultant, Stroke and Neurovascular Medicine, Cauvery Hospital, Chennai, highlighted that 30% of strokes can be due to atrial fibrillation.
