Mysore: JSS Ayurvedic Medical College and HospitalSri Sri Tattva Medical Association, Mysore in collaboration with Sri Sri Tattva Medical Association, Bangalore, yesterday organised a Continuing Medical Education (CME) on ‘Latest Updates in Pharmaceuticals’ at the seminar hall of a college in the city.
The keynote address was delivered by Dr. B. Gurubasavaraja, eminent Ayurvedic physician and former Professor, JSS Ayurvedic Medical College and Hospital. He emphasised on the need for a paradigm shift in the approach to drug updating.
He explained how the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) and the World Trade Organisation (WTO) since 1995 have brought about major changes in the pharmaceutical industry and ushered in a new era of Ayurvedic medicine manufacturing.
Noting that multinational companies are entering the Ayurvedic medicines market, Dr Gurubasavaraja stressed the need for non-conventional medicines to manage lifestyle-related diseases and combat the growing drug resistance. Calling for extensive research and review, Dr Gurubasavaraja stressed the importance of incorporating herbs and other medicines into modern healthcare.
The CME was inaugurated by Arvind Varchaswi, Managing Director, Sri Sri Tattva, who in his inaugural address emphasised the importance of innovation in the industry while upholding ancient traditions and a holistic approach.
He stressed the importance of purity of herbal medicines and their final products to enhance Ayurveda’s global standing and advocated the incorporation of Ayurvedic principles into diet, yoga and meditation to prevent lifestyle disorders.
Dr Sarveswar Kar, Director, JSS Ayurvedic Medical College and Hospital welcomed the participants and emphasised the importance of the Medicines Update Programme in creating awareness about innovative products amongst practising doctors and aspiring doctors.
Dr. Shashi Bhushan, Scientific Head and Resource Person, Sri Sri Tattva shared insights on recent innovations in R&D related to Drugs Update.More than 250 delegates including faculty members, consultants from various specialties, postgraduate students and interns benefited from this knowledge session.
Dr RR Bellary, Senior General Manager, Sri Sri Tattva, chaired the CME programme and Dr MD Beena, Postgraduate Coordinator, delivered the vote of thanks.
