PARK CITY, Utah — World Wellness Day is fast approaching on June 8. The #MagentaNature theme emphasizes reconnecting with nature and nurturing physical, mental and spiritual health. Local wellness experts share tips on staying healthy and making the most of the season.

Alpine Apothecary: Vitamin D and Anti-Aging Benefits

Alpine Apothecary stresses the importance of getting outside and getting enough sunlight to boost your vitamin D levels. “Adequate exposure to sunlight increases vitamin D, which benefits our bodies in a variety of ways, from being essential for calcium absorption (bone health) to cognitive function and immunity,” the company explains. “In fact, declining vitamin D levels as we age are associated with an increase in Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s and cognitive impairment. All you need is 10-15 minutes of direct sunlight a few days a week.”

While summer activities like biking, hiking, swimming and pickleball provide plenty of sun exposure, the researchers note that it’s important to monitor your vitamin D levels even in the winter: “We live in the mountains and ski in the winter, so we bundle up in ski suits and goggles. Therefore, it’s important to test your vitamin D levels in both winter and summer and talk to your health care provider about how much vitamin D you should be taking throughout the year.”

For skin health, Alpine Apothecary recommends incorporating a Vitamin C serum: “Vitamin C evens and brightens skin tone and has antioxidant properties that protect skin from skin-damaging free radicals caused by the sun and other environmental toxins.” The company offers a Glow Serum with Vitamin C, Vitamin E and Ferulic Acid, which pairs well with their Rejuve Moisturizer, which contains caffeine to prevent irregular cell growth caused by UV exposure.

Coach Stork: Embrace outdoor activities and mindfulness

Stork coach Rachel Feldman Elberts specializes in creating outdoor wellness sessions that combine strength training, yoga and mindfulness. She emphasizes the mental health benefits of spending time in nature: “The more time we spend outdoors, the more connected we feel to the present moment, which brings deeper joy.”

Elberts encourages creating a morning ritual that incorporates meditation, journaling, gentle exercise, and a gratitude practice to start your day with intention. She also suggests setting fun, manageable fitness goals: “Learn a new sport, climb a mountain, run a race, or swim a new lake each week. Setting goals will help motivate you and give you a sense of accomplishment.”

Athletic Republic: Stay hydrated and adjust your exercise habits

With a focus on overall fitness, Athletic Republic stresses the importance of hydration and adapting exercise routines to summer conditions. “Desert life can be challenging due to the extreme temperatures you’re exposed to,” he notes. They recommend exercising in the morning and evening, hydrating frequently, and utilizing indoor training facilities for high-intensity sessions.

She also encourages enjoying Utah’s natural beauty: “Hiking, biking, and water sports at the pool or lake are always great fun, but I highly recommend being physically prepared to build up your resistance to injury.”

Good Earth Markets: Stay Hydrated and Choose Healthy Snacks

Good Earth Market, a Utah-based natural foods and supplements store, emphasizes the importance of staying hydrated and snacking healthily during the summer. “Maintaining optimal hydration with fluids and electrolytes is fundamental,” the store says. They recommend drinking extra 1 to 1.5 liters of fluid on active days and choosing whole-food snacks like whole grains, nuts, fruits, and seeds.

She also advises being selective when it comes to sunscreen: “Choose a non-toxic, mineral-based product that contains zinc oxide or titanium dioxide as the main ingredient. This way, you can maximise protection by applying sunscreen regularly throughout the summer and prevent toxins from being absorbed through the skin.”

Prime IV Hydration: The Benefits of IV Therapy and Hydration

Prime IV Hydration offers vitamin infusions, NAD and peptide therapy via IV drips and injections in a relaxing spa environment. This treatment provides the hydrating effect of drinking 2.5 gallons of water, and nutrients are infused directly into the bloodstream for 100% absorption.

“Summer is the perfect time to talk about hydration! Almost everyone can benefit from IV infusions because staying hydrated makes everyone feel better and prevents them from suffering from vitamin deficiencies,” says the team at Prime IV Hydration. “We treat patients with chronic migraines, seasonal allergies, chronic fatigue, and long-term COVID symptoms. We also provide infusions to exhausted construction workers and hairdressers looking for an energy boost. We also serve competitive athletes who want to increase their endurance and speed up their recovery time.” Their most popular service is the immune infusion, which helps prevent colds or even catch them altogether.

Try one wellness tip or try them all: Following expert tips on sun protection, staying hydrated, being outdoors and practicing mindfulness can help people make the most of this season while staying healthy and safe.
