Ayurveda is the essence of life, meaning life (ayu) and science (veda), and refers to life in science or life science. Stages of Autism
Autism is a neurodevelopmental disorder that causes a variety of impairments in social communication and restricted, repetitive behaviors. Autistic disorders affect neural pathways in all aspects of the brain, including emotional, social, and physical characteristics.
In Ayurveda, ASD is considered as a behavioral abnormality that indicates a defect in the neuropsychological system. Autistic disorder can cause communication problems, concentration problems, behavioral differences, inappropriate social behavior, etc. Each person with this disorder may have different strengths and challenges when facing situations. Moreover, genetic factors may play a significant role in this disorder. Therefore, special care is required to treat this disorder more effectively.
Dr Smita Naram shares some Ayurvedic herbs that can be taken by people with autism.
- Brahmi Brahmi (Bacopa monneiri) helps in eliminating memory loss and forgetfulness and improves the recall ability of the human brain.Brahmi is one of the safest and most effective herbs for autism symptoms in adults and children.
- Shankhapushpi (Clitoria ternatea) Found in the hippocampus, this herb enriches the neurochemical basis of learning and memory. It has fast acting properties and is useful in the Ayurvedic treatment of autism.
- Ashwagandha (Horse Somnifera) Ayurveda recommends Ashwagandha to eliminate attention problems, memory impairments, and other disorders that are key characteristics of autism.
- Shatavari This herb is effective against anxiety and depression and acts as an antidepressant containing many such ingredients.
In addition to these, Dr Smita Naram, co-founder of Ayushakti, recommends the following special gluten-free diet to improve gut health:
- Soups made with green moong dal or yellow dal, fresh fruits like apple, mango, gooseberry, pomegranate, melon and pear, cooked vegetables and oils like extra virgin olive oil and medicated cow ghee are the most effective.
- Drink white pumpkin and beet juice with turmeric powder every day, this will help relieve the symptoms of the disease.
- It is also recommended to consume 4-5 teaspoons of soaked almonds and ghee daily.
