When the player retaliates against Zest T for crushing his contact lenses, Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Dooryou can ask her to cook various recipes for you in the kitchen. These dishes have a variety of effects, ranging from incredible HP and FP recovery effects to explosive weapons to use against enemies.
It doesn’t cost any coins to use Zess T. and her kitchen – Mario just needs to have the ingredients he wants to use on hand, and while some recipes only require one ingredient, if he wants to make every recipe offered in the game, the player will need to solve Zess T.’s troubles at the Trouble Center.

Where to find Zess T.’s cookbook on TTYD
After heading to Twilight Town and completing Chapter 4, players can visit the Trouble Center in eastern Rogueport and find a listing for Zest T. She is searching for a legendary cookbook written by famous chef Maitre d’Elish. A visit to her kitchen will teach players that a copy of the book must be located somewhere in Creepy Steeple, but no further information will be revealed.
Players should return to Creepy Steeple and enter through the main door or make their way to the front of the main hall. Freeing Buu within the spire is not required to obtain the cookbook, but the cookbook is in the same room as Buu who gives Mario a quiz that gives him an item reward. Immediately to the right of the first pillar from the entrance, players should notice a small gap in the far wall.
Mario can enter by transforming into a tube and find a Cookbook and a Shine Sprite inside a treasure chest on the right.
When Mario returns to Zest T. with the cookbook, she is overjoyed. Using her new ability to create recipes with two ingredients, she shows Mario the recipe and rewards him with a Honey Mushroom. From this point on, the player can bring Zest T. any two ingredients and have him create a dish.
How to get all the recipes in TTYD
A total of 58 entries are recorded in the Recipe tab of the game’s journal, and once all of them are made or discovered, the player is rewarded with a trophy for their efforts. Other kitchen creations by Zess T. not shown in the gallery above are not essential for completion (such as combining a point swap with any mushroom to obtain its syrup). For a recipe to be recorded in the journal, the player must have had that dish in their inventory at some point during the game. Whether they had Zess T. make the dish themselves, received it after spending a night at an inn, or got it as a reward for helping solve a problem, as long as Mario has it, it will count.
Once Mario has recorded all 58 recipes (including a mistake made using two incompatible ingredients), he’ll receive a congratulatory email and a Cooking Trophy to commemorate his efforts — one of three trophies needed to receive the end game’s most glorious reward.
