Texas is known for its delicious barbecue, perfected for cooking meat so tender and smoky that it falls easily off the bone. Just 1,000 miles away, Kentucky is the birthplace of bourbon, producing 95% of the world’s supply. The staple dishes of these two states serve as the heartwarming inspiration for National Barbecue Week.
Luckily, foodies don’t have to travel to the US to enjoy delicious food this week. The Cambridge Crab Festival starts at 7 p.m.Number Up to 9Number In June, we’re bringing you a taste of the South with a selection of Texas BBQ and Kentucky Bourbon.
In addition to an all-star lineup including Chaka Khan, Jessie Ware and Earth, Wind & Fire, popular culinary duo Sam and Shauna will be grilling up at Club USA, the festival’s VIP hospitality area, presented by Visit the USA in partnership with Austin & Kentucky. Top-tier tickets include a variety of perks, including complimentary food and drinks to keep you energized and refreshed, as well as great views of the Main Stage.
If you can’t make it to the Cambridge Crab Festival, don’t worry – Sam and Shauna have created some amazingly simple award-winning recipes that you can grill at home too.
Pitmasters Sam and Shauna’s Texas Espresso BBQ Sauce
material:
- 200ml/7fl oz of espresso or strong coffee
- 250ml ketchup
- 100ml/3½ fl oz cider vinegar
- Worcestershire sauce 50ml/2fl oz
- Dark Muscovado Sugar 100g
- 1 tablespoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon sea salt flakes
- 1 tablespoon garlic powder
- 1 tablespoon mustard powder
- 1 tablespoon onion powder
- 1 tablespoon smoked paprika
- 1/2 tablespoon chili powder
Preparation:
- Add all ingredients to a saucepan and mix.
- Bring to a boil over medium heat and simmer for 15 minutes.
- Transfer to a clean jar and allow to cool. Store in the refrigerator but allow the sauce to come to room temperature before serving.
Kentucky Twisted Mint Julep
material:
- 2 parts Jim Beam Black Bourbon
- Peach Nectar Part 5
- A handful of crushed blueberries
- Mint sprigs
- Brown sugar flavor
Preparation:
- Mix the mint and brown sugar in a double old fashioned glass.
- Add the blueberries and mix again.
- Add crushed ice, peach nectar, and Jim Beam Black Bourbon.
- Stir to distribute the mint evenly.
- Top with crushed ice and garnish with blueberries and mint sprigs.
