Being in a Broadway show certainly helped — Shields is “so fit and healthy I don’t even realize it’s happened” — but she does find that in general, once you hit your 50s, “it gets harder to stay in shape.”

So how does the star do it? Shields’ current routine includes Nofer Method Pilates, which she calls “really hard.” A recent convert to the workout (she admits she “wasn’t really a fan of Pilates before”), Shields loves that it’s zero-impact and “very specific,” and she leaves class “drenched in sweat.” Created by Pilates instructor and former water polo player Nofer Haggag, the Nofer Method is billed as a “challenging, athletic, and creative exercise system” that uses Pilates equipment for cardio, alignment, and a total-body burn, according to the brand’s website.
