Why Brooke Shields’ workout routine includes Pilates

Brooke Shields is “feeling better than ever,” she said. TODAY Show This morning, we found out why: the iconic actress is truly thriving in 2024. She’s starring in Netflix’s Mother of the BrideShields just launched a new haircare line, Komens, and recently celebrated her 59th birthday. “For the first time in my life, things are going my way, so I’m going into this period of my life with a positive mindset,” she explained. Of course, part of that depends on feeling your best, and Shields is putting all her effort into training to stay strong and healthy at this stage of her life.

“The big thing for me is I’ve been able to find something that I really enjoy,” Shields said. TODAY.com Shields has revamped her training routine at the age of 59, and it’s a change from the days when she was “pushing myself hard in the gym just to look fit”, which she added was “demoralising” and “frustrating”.

Being in a Broadway show certainly helped — Shields is “so fit and healthy I don’t even realize it’s happened” — but she does find that in general, once you hit your 50s, “it gets harder to stay in shape.”

So how does the star do it? Shields’ current routine includes Nofer Method Pilates, which she calls “really hard.” A recent convert to the workout (she admits she “wasn’t really a fan of Pilates before”), Shields loves that it’s zero-impact and “very specific,” and she leaves class “drenched in sweat.” Created by Pilates instructor and former water polo player Nofer Haggag, the Nofer Method is billed as a “challenging, athletic, and creative exercise system” that uses Pilates equipment for cardio, alignment, and a total-body burn, according to the brand’s website.

Shields says she likes to combine Pilates with “some kind of cardio, like a SoulCycle class or rowing to music.” “Just do 10 minutes. [results]Her revised routine has helped her lose the belly fat she first began to notice. “Before, the fat was concentrated in my butt,” Shields says. “Now it’s lowered and it’s moved here and there. It’s moving to other areas.” Shields also says she’s “cutting down on alcohol” to stay healthy.

This isn’t the first time Shields has opened up about her health and fitness routine. During the pandemic, she has regularly shared her at-home workouts with personal trainer Ngo Okafer on Instagram, showing off routines that target her arms, abs and legs. “You don’t have to deadlift 100 pounds,” she said. TODAY Show in 2020. “By doing small movements, you can activate the small muscles that wrap around other large muscles and tighten them all up.”

Staying healthy has become an even bigger priority for Shields since she suffered a stroke in September 2023, which she said was caused by low sodium levels in her blood.
