The latest episode of Jennifer Garner’s “Pretend Cooking Show” features one of our favorite special guests: her 86-year-old mother, Pat Garner.
On Sunday, Jennifer shared a video of the two of them making a creamed corn recipe that her kids have affectionately dubbed “Grandma Corn” in Pat’s West Virginia kitchen. Jennifer has been spending more time with her mom since her father, William, passed away in March.
“Grandmum’s Corn. My sisters and I grew up eating this corn. It tastes like summer,” the actress wrote on Instagram along with a video. “I make it without sugar and it tastes good. Of course my kids prefer the corn made by the Queen herself. We love Grandmum’s.”
The episode begins with Pat explaining that she learned the recipe from a neighbor named Marge Aldredge, and then she begins to cut the corn kernels off the cob in a way that understandably leaves Jennifer uneasy.
“Mom? Mom? Don’t cut it on yourself,” she warned.
“Well, just cut it!” Pat replied.
Jennifer takes over the mowing, then Pat, having successfully removed the kernels, tosses the cobs in the backyard “for the bears.”
Armed with eight ears of corn (and plenty of bellies for the bears), the matriarch demonstrated the rest of the recipe, which Jennifer included in the caption.
“It’s so good, thank you, Mom,” she said, biting into her bowl of creamed corn.
I can’t wait to try this this summer!
