NEDERLAND – This summer, the Nederland Independent School District will provide healthy, free summer meals to children ages 18 and under and current school students with disabilities up to age 21.
The Summer Foodservice Program is a United States Department of Agriculture nutrition program administered by the Texas Department of Agriculture.
For children who rely on school meals during term time, these meals provide a good source of nutrition over the long summer holidays.
Meals are provided at the following schools:
• Langham Elementary School
• CO Wilson Middle School
• Central Middle School
Offering times are listed on the NISD website at nederland.k12.tx.us.
Nederland ISD is one of several nonprofits partnering with the Texas Department of Agriculture to provide meals across Texas.
Families are encouraged to use these three tools to find places to eat anywhere in the state:
• Call 2-1-1 and speak to an operator
• Visit SummerFood.org for an interactive site locator map.
• Text FOOD or COMIDA to 304-304
The organizations work together to provide meals in areas where 50 percent or more of children qualify for free or reduced-price meals through the National School Lunch Program.
Eligible sponsoring organizations include schools, religious organizations, non-profit summer camps, government agencies and other tax-exempt organizations.
All meal sites must be sponsored by an organization under contract with the Texas Department of Agriculture.
