Summer brings longer days and warmer temperatures, but it also brings its own unique health challenges. Due to increased sweating and fluid loss, high temperatures can lead to dehydration, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke.

The cardiovascular system is strained as it tries to regulate body temperature, which often leads to fatigue. The heat also worsens respiratory problems and creates skin problems such as rashes and sunburn. Digestive issues such as malaise and indigestion are also common. To alleviate these effects, Ayurvedic prescriptions that are thousands of years old can help. How can Ayurvedic methods help alleviate summer health problems?

dehydration

Dehydration is common in summers due to increased sweating. Ayurveda recommends natural, cool drinks to keep you hydrated. Amla juice, rich in Vitamin C, helps keep you hydrated and replenishes electrolytes.

Fresh amla juice mixed with water and a pinch of salt makes a refreshing drink. Coconut water is rich in natural electrolytes, making it perfect for keeping your body hydrated and cool.

Heat rash

Excessive sweating can lead to heat rash, which causes clogged sweat glands and skin irritation. Ayurveda recommends applying fresh aloe vera gel to treat heat rash, as it has cooling and anti-inflammatory properties.

Sunburn

Prolonged exposure to sunlight can cause painful sunburn. Ayurveda recommends the use of a cooling paste of cucumber and mint. Mixing cucumber and mint leaves into a paste and applying it on sunburned areas can cool the skin and reduce inflammation. Applying aloe vera gel directly can soothe and heal sunburned skin.

Indigestion

The summer heat can lead to digestive problems like bloating, acidity, indigestion etc. Ayurveda recommends drinking buttermilk to cool the body. Add roasted cumin powder and black salt to buttermilk and drink it after meals.

Malaise

High temperatures can cause fatigue and lethargy, so Ayurveda recommends taking ashwagandha, an adaptogenic herb that boosts energy levels and reduces stress.

Taking ashwagandha powder with milk can help reduce fatigue.

Heat rash

Heat rash, or miliaria, occurs when sweat gets trapped under the skin and causes small, itchy rash.Apply In that case, a paste of neem and basil leaves can help.

Neem is known for its antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, while basil (tulsi) is known for its soothing and cooling properties. Crushing basil and neem leaves with rose water and applying directly to the affected area can help soothe the skin and prevent infection.

Ayurveda has a wealth of natural remedies to combat common summer problems. Incorporating these methods into your daily routine can help reduce discomfort during the hot summer and improve your health. These effective remedies promote a balanced relationship with nature, helping you stay healthy and refreshed all year round.
