Del Mar Girl Scout Troop 3917 and Solana Beach Troop 3224 recently earned the Girl Scout Bronze Award, the highest honor Girl Scouts USA can bestow on a 5th grade junior. The Girl Scout Bronze Award is team work in which 5th grade junior Girl Scouts work together to explore their community, identify an issue they care about and address it.
Studies have shown that people who garden report feeling happier and less stressed, so Troops 3917 and 3224 opened a succulent cutting loan kiosk, a project approved by the Del Mar City Council.

Local residents are encouraged to stop by and make a cutting or leave one in hopes of promoting plant diversity in residential areas and providing an opportunity for neighbors to give back to one another. This permanent succulent kiosk was built to promote the happiness and overall health of the North County community and residents.
The Girl Scouts would like to thank Del Mar resident and master woodworker Ron Prater, who generously donated his time and talents to the design and construction of the succulent kiosk. The Girl Scouts would also like to thank Jeff Moore of Solana Succulents for encouraging and educating the Girl Scouts about succulents and providing cuttings.
Everyone is invited to attend the free grand opening at the Del Mar Civic Center on Saturday, June 9th, starting at 1pm, which will include a ribbon-cutting ceremony and the distribution of free giveaways.
Funding for this project was provided by a grant from the Del Mar Foundation. —Girl Scouts news release
