Twelve members of the Black Country Veterans team are preparing to get muddy to raise money for mental health charities.
Veterinary staff from Black’s Vets, which has five practices across the West Midlands, will take on the gruelling Tough Mudder in Birmingham.
This gruelling half marathon takes place at Ragley Hall in Warwickshire on 7th September.
Participants will test their minds as well as their muscles over a grueling five-mile obstacle course that includes muddy and challenging terrain.
The team hope to raise at least £3,600 to support Mind. Black’s Vets coordinator Chelsea Moore explained: “The veterinary industry is one of the hardest hit sectors when it comes to poor mental health.
“We think it’s really important to have the right support systems in place and to make sure people don’t feel embarrassed about the struggles they’re going through.
“We chose the charity Mind because it’s a great cause.
“Their aim is to offer support and assistance to everyone through toolkits and online resources, but also to refer people in crisis to helplines and talking therapies.”
“We want to raise as much money as we can to support the Mind Foundation’s mission of helping others and saving lives.”
Participants included two vets, four nurses, a group nursing manager and five key support staff, all of whom had never attempted a Tough Mudder before but insisted that taking part was an important experience in itself.
Chelsea added: “We’re not athletes by any means, but for us it was important to take part and do something that got us out of our comfort zone and we feel like we’ve contributed to raising money – and had fun doing it too.”
“We have set up a Just Giving page for donations and hope you will support our mission.”
Donations can be made through the clinic’s JustGiving page at Justgiving.com/page/blacksvetsfundraisingmind.
