  • Unlock Zess T. and expand your healing options with powerful recipes. Don’t overlook her culinary prowess.
  • Fire pops, coconut bombs, healthy salads – easy-to-make recipes that will give you a strategic advantage in battle.
  • Experiment with different ingredients to create dishes like Zest Deluxe, Jelly Ultra, Maple Ultra, and more to recover maximum HP/FP.

When you first play Paper Mario: Doors of the Millennium, you might think the only way to get healing items like hearts and flowers is through random drops or by purchasing them in the shop. In most cases, that’s true. But once you’re able to get your hands on Zest T’s contact lenses, your world will change completely.

Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door – 10 of the most memorable quotes

These quotes showcase the wit and humor in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door.

She may not worship you like many other characters, but she’s still happy to cook for you, and some of the recipes Zest makes are even tastier than the ones you can get in the stores, so don’t ignore her.

Ten Fire Pop

Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door Rogueport store interior and shopkeeper

material

Cake Mix

Fire Flower or Hot Sauce

If you want to get your hands on Fire Pops in bulk, you’re probably best off not buying the hot sauce unless you already have access to a distributor, otherwise turn your attention to getting the cake mix, which you should be able to buy at Pianta Parlor.

Mixing cake mix with fire flowers creates a ton of spicy candy, which will restore 20 FP when eaten in or out of combat, making them a great treat to have on hand.

9 Coconut Bomb

Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door Mario uses the Keelhaul Key to find Admiral Bobberry

material

coconut

Fire Flower

Coconut Bomb is a fairly easy recipe, but you will need to have access to at least a Keelhole Key. Once you have a coconut, you can combine it with a Fire Flower, which has great utility. Unlike many other recipes, this is not a healing recipe, but rather a very cheap way to deal damage to enemies.

Dropping a Coconut Bomb in combat can deal 7 damage to any enemy, which can be a huge turn of the tide in either the early or late game.

8 Healthy Salad

material

Turtle Leaf

Goldenleaf or Horsetail

One of the most appealing things about the Healing Salad is that it basically restores 15 FP for free – you don’t have to pay a cent to get the ingredients, and even if coins aren’t much of an issue, your money is better spent on other things.

Which ones will be chosen and which ones will be eliminated?

Turtle Leaf can be easily obtained from the bushes in front of Mayor Croup’s house in Petalburg, and Horsetail can also be obtained in Petal Meadows, just before Petalburg, as this is the best place to get it, but if you want to aim for Golden Leaf, you’ll need to head to Spooky Spire.

7 Zest Special

Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, Mario inside Zest T's house in Rogueport 1

material

Ultra Shroom

Fresh pasta, fire flower, gradual syrup, or horsetail

It may be tough to give up your Ultra Shrooms, but it’s worth it for the Zest Special. Combine an Ultra Shroom with one of the ingredients above and you’ll have a meal that replenishes 20 HP and 20 FP.

If you want to cook cheaply, choose Horsetail from Petal Meadows, or if you want easy access, cook with Fire Flower.

6 Inky Source

Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door Mario outside the Glitz Arena Goobera and child Yoshi's egg

material

Hot Sauce

Fresh Juice, Cuppa Tea, Mushroom Soup, Turtle Leaf, Zesty or Tasty Tonic

If you want to get your hands on Inky Sauce, one of the first things you need to do is complete the security code Trouble, which is only available after completing Chapter 6. The reward for this quest is the necessary hot sauce, which can be combined with various drinks to make sauces.

Of course, you can use it on its own to replenish 30 FP upon consumption, or you can wait a while – after all, Inky Sauce is better served as an ingredient than as a dish.

Five Inky Pasta

Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door Mario standing with Don Pinata

material

Inky Source

Fresh pasta, soup, spaghetti or spicy pasta

If you decide to save your Ink Source to use as an ingredient rather than consuming it, you’ll need to use it to craft Ink Pasta. If you have a pasta dish or raw pasta, you can craft Ink Pasta, which will restore 10 HP and 30 FP when consumed.

Badges for all occasions.

It’s not a massive step up from Inky Sauce, but it’s definitely worth the little effort — if you use fresh pasta, you’ll need to buy it from Poshly Heights, meaning this is definitely a mid-to-late game dish.

Four Zest Deluxe

Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door The eerie spire outside Twilight Town

material

Wakkabump or Shroomsteak

Golden Leaf or Healthy Salad

Yes, Zess Deluxe does require more effort and time as you have to make 2-3 meals to make this dish, but since this dish heals 40 HP and 40 FP, it’s absolutely worth the time and effort.

If you want to cut down on the cost of this dish a bit, you can also use Golden Leaf, which is easily available in Creepy Steeple, as the second ingredient. It will take a little time to obtain, but at least you’ll save money for other great items in the game.

3 Jelly Candy

Goombella-1, Paper Mario: The Millennium Door, commenting on the behavior of the patrons at the Piñata Parlor

material

Jammin’ Jelly

Cake Mix

One of the great things about jelly candy is that the recipe is pretty easy and simple, however, one of the downsides is that you’ll probably have to buy all of the ingredients. For this recipe, you’ll need jammin’ jelly and cake mix.

There are two legendary RPGs, but which is the best?

If you’re not sure where to get Jammin’ Jelly, you should be able to buy it in the Rogueport Underground, or you can have Zest T make it for you. Mix the ingredients together and you’ll have a delicious treat that will net you 64 FP.

2 Maple Ultra

Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door Eve and the kids are at home with Mario in Twilight Town - 2

material

Ultra Shroom

Maple syrup

Maple Ultra is a very simple recipe that only requires one Ultra Shroom and some Maple Syrup. When cooked, it creates a snack that will restore 50 HP and 10 FP. It’s a great in-battle snack if you’re low on health but have plenty of Flower Power.

The hard part, of course, is getting hold of maple syrup, which can be purchased at the store in Twilight Town or while riding the Excess Express. This late-game item is a must-have in your inventory.

1 Jelly Ultra

Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, Mario is talking to a rugged man at the docks of Rogueport

material

Ultra Shroom

Jammin’ Jelly

There’s literally no reason not to make the best recipe offered by Zess T. All you need for the Jelly Ultra recipe is an Ultra Shroom and a Jammin’ Jelly, which will heal you for 50 HP and 50 FP. Sure, the ingredients are a bit pricey and you’ll have to run around to different regions to get them, but coins are hardly an issue later in the game.

Plus, if you have one of your best buddies, Yoshi Kid, in your party, you won’t have to walk around again and again. Stop making excuses and get cooking.
