New DelhiThe monsoon provides a welcome respite from the summer heat and is also the perfect time to strengthen your body’s defences against illness.
Preventive treatments that strengthen and tonic the body against illnesses are recommended by vaidyas (doctors) at CGH Earth Ayurvedic treatment centres – Kalari Rasayana, Kollam and Kalari Kovilakom, Palakkad. Monsoon season is the best time to undergo these treatments. Irrespective of the season, sick patients need to treat their symptoms. To kick-start treatment effectively, monsoon season is ideal for addressing certain medical issues like degenerative diseases, neuropathy and arthritis.
According to Ayurvedic texts, seasonal changes such as the transition from summer to monsoon weaken the body’s immunity and lead to the accumulation of metabolic toxins, which can lead to the development of diseases.
Explaining scientifically, Dr Firoz Varun, head physician at Kalari Rasayana, said, “Our body has three bio-energies called doshas (pitta, kapha and vata). Doshas are a combination of five elements of nature that determine the mental, physical and emotional constitution of each individual. These doshas rise and fall in cycles on a daily and seasonal basis.”
“During monsoon, Vata dosha becomes aggravated and goes out of balance. This creates a domino effect, causing imbalance in other doshas as well. In addition to this, unhealthy lifestyle choices further aggravate the situation, weakening the body and increasing the likelihood of health problems like illnesses, metabolic disorders, stiff joints and poor digestion. Ayurveda helps address these issues by strengthening the immune system and maintaining a stronger, healthier body that is free from chronic diseases.”
Treatment options include sattvic diets, yoga, meditation, cellular rejuvenation therapies, cleansing and detoxification therapies, treatment of specific diseases and herbal medicines. Effective detoxification techniques called Panchakarma aim to strengthen the immune system and restore health and well-being through the process of unclogging pathways and flushing toxins from the body. It also slows down ageing, combats the harmful effects of stress on the body and mind and increases vitality, energy and mental clarity. (IANS)
