The Student Health Center, located next to the Student Recreation Center, offers urgent care, women’s health care and more.
For many students, college is the first time in their lives they have to deal with medical issues on their own. The University Health Center, Women’s and Gender Resource Center, and Counseling Center are on-campus resources that all students should be aware of throughout their time in college.
Student Health Center
Student Health Center We provide women’s health care, psychiatric care, vaccinations, x-rays, lab tests, HIV testing, referrals, etc. We also have allergy, nutrition and dermatology clinics.
When visiting the Student Health Center, students will submit a copy of their insurance to the reception desk. If a student does not have insurance, their student account will be charged. For students with insurance, their account will only be charged if there are outstanding credits after insurance coverage.
According to the Student Health Center website, its values are “providing compassionate care with a commitment to excellence; respecting the individuality, dignity and diversity of each student; leading with integrity and earning trust; ensuring confidentiality and effective communication; and educating and supporting students for healthier lives.”
In the fall, students who are taking or have completed their second semester of nursing will also be able to receive free flu vaccinations. Third-year nursing student Brantley Denney said the flu clinic operates under the motto “protect the pack,” as flu vaccinations help prevent the spread of the flu and protect other students and faculty on campus.
“Participating in the flu clinic has made me feel more confident in my abilities as a nurse and I am proud to have played a part in protecting the herd!” Denny wrote.
Women and Gender Resource Center
Women and Gender Resource Center We provide free counselling services to students who are victims of interpersonal violence, as well as friends and family members who have been affected by the abuse. All services are confidential and voluntary.
The center offers support group services in addition to 50-minute individual sessions.
Students can call the center to schedule an initial appointment, and if they need to speak with a victim advocate outside of regular hours, they can call UAPD and ask to speak with a WGRC advocate.
The WGRC provides advice, clarifications of misconceptions, and answers to frequently asked questions on its website.
Outside of the office, WGRC also hosts events and programs on campus throughout the year.
Counseling Center
Counseling Center is an extremely helpful resource for students trying to navigate college life. The center offers 15 free counseling sessions and can help students find the right referral for further support.
The Center also offers one-off 30-minute sessions over the phone for students who would like to speak with a therapist about a specific concern, have a specific question, receive specific advice, or receive recommendations for other services. Students can call the Center to schedule an appointment for the same day.
Group service sessions are also held in the fall and spring, and the center offers workshops throughout the year. Students who would like to participate in center events can Website Check the calendar for upcoming programs.
If a medical emergency occurs, students should call 911 immediately.
