Candy Clough and grandson Flynn Fitzpatick;
Candy Clough’s grandson, Flynn Fitzpatrick of Millard, Nebraska, competed in Sodexo’s “Future Chefs” national cooking competition for fourth and fifth graders in March. Flynn’s parents are Joel and Jenny Fitzpatrick.
“Flynn, who was 10 years old and in the fourth grade, said he needed a recipe, so I gave him a simple quiche recipe using my mom’s (Marge Clough’s) biscuits,” Candy explained. “He was selected by his school, Millard School District, to go to the next level, which was a big deal because there are 25 schools in Millard. He had to make the recipe in the cafeteria and the cooking lasted three or four hours. I got to sit and watch them cook. There were a lot of kids busy, so it was a lot of fun. A woman was interviewing the kids to livestream the competition.”
“Flynn cut three pieces for the three judges who tasted the quiche,” she added. “There were other smaller pieces too so anyone could try them. At the end of the competition, everyone received a medal, a chef’s coat and hat, kitchen utensils, spatulas, etc. It was so cute.”
Flynn was selected in the top five and placed second. The first place winner went on to the national competition.
“My family said they hope they never have to eat quiche again,” Candy laughed.
