NEW DELHI: The BJP on Friday slammed the opposition parties for mocking Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s meditation in Kanyakumari, saying it was fresh evidence of hatred towards Sanatan Dharma in the Hindu sphere. “Prime Minister Narendra Modi is meditating at the world-famous Vivekananda Rock Memorial in Kanyakumari, the same place where Swami Vivekananda dreamed of a developed India. It is unfortunate that the Indian National Congress and Indian National Congress Alliance are troubled by this,” BJP’s chief spokesperson Anil Baluni said in a statement. “Why do the Indian National Congress and Indian National Congress Alliance have so much hatred towards Sanatan Dharma, meditation and worship for a developed India,” he asked. Baluni dismissed as baseless the opposition’s accusation that PM Modi’s meditation violates the model code of conduct and pointed out that the PM will maintain silence for the 45 hours he meditates. “If his silence is powerful enough to agitate the forces of heresy and defamation of the country, then he is nothing but an ascetic. Who has stopped the opposition from performing sadhana, prayer and worship? They are in fact making such statements out of frustration and disappointment over their inevitable crushing defeat,” he added. “Didn’t the leaders of the Indian National Congress and INDI partners hold a press conference today? Why didn’t the media televise it? The prime minister is silent while the leaders of the INDI Alliance are lamenting loudly. No matter how much they cry, only Modi will win,” Baluni added. Indian National Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge on Friday criticised Modi’s meditation, suggesting he could have done the same at home.
