Each podcast typically lasts about 10 minutes and involves a graduate student interviewing the author of a particular review or opinion piece published in a paper or research collection. Advances in Nutrition: An International Review JournalThe podcasts are designed to engage students, trainees, faculty, researchers and clinicians in the fields of nutrition science, healthcare and public health, providing more detailed background information and insights to enhance understanding of reviews and perspectives. Topics include a full range of issues and challenges facing the nutrition science community worldwide, from obesity research to personalized nutrition.
The first podcast has already been posted and includes an interview with Dr. Juan Rivera Domarco, Director of Mexico’s National Public Health Institute. Dr. Domarco discusses Mexico’s experience fighting obesity (both good and bad) and explains how Mexico’s approach to obesity can be applied to different parts of the world. The podcast is available in both English and Spanish. Going forward, we plan to offer additional bilingual versions of select podcasts as part of ASN Journals’ commitment to reach a wider international audience.

Dr. Albin discusses what has happened since the 1985 National Academy of Sciences report on “Nutrition Education in U.S. Medical Schools,” noting that “40 years later, the situation is remarkably similar,” and explains how improving nutrition education for physicians can help realize “the promise of food as health-transforming medicine.”
Initially, we aim to publish about one podcast per month, with the goal of increasing to two per month. Most importantly, we want to engage with our listeners to know what you think and what kinds of podcasts you would like us to develop in the future.
