Rest in peace, Zoraya Ter Beek

Source: Screenshot: https://www.thefp.com/p/im-28-and-im-scheduled-to-die?utm

As I was preparing to publish this article, I learned via Twitter/X that Zoraya ter Beek, a young Dutch woman I featured on the show, was euthanized a few days ago. A terrible and completely unnecessary tragedy. I will talk about Zoraya in my next podcast.

Podcast—SOUL#11 Excerpt

Partially edited transcript

Hello everyone and welcome to SOUL SCIENCE Episode 11. As you know, I am still suffering from a cold. I am trying to get over this cold. Today’s episode is titled “News and Review”.

Mysticism and sanity

I read this article by Mark Judge stream. I sometimes write articles stream. I love this publication. And Mark Judge wrote a great article. I really loved it. It’s titled, “Christian Mysticism Will Keep Us Sane.” And I was like, “Wow! This is so similar to my kickoff episode of Soul Science, “Should Doctors Prescribe Religion for Mental Health?” But I thought Mark Judge did it so much better. He put out a sexier version of the message that I was promoting in my episode. I kind of put out a Ross Perot version. And Mark Judge put out a leather jacket version that was really cool.

I think it’s “Christian mysticism.” Mysticism It’s going to be really cool. But anyway, there’s a lot of good things in this article. I’m going to put a link here, guys. Check it out. There’s a lot of good things. Mark Judge does a great job of weaving together pop culture and intellectual culture. He strikes that balance really well. And that shows in this article.

Lauren Daigle

He has a great section on Lauren Daigle’s new album. You should go and see it just for that. He has some recent concert footage, and she has some of her songs on it. Wow! What a great performance! She has such a unique voice. And the stage presence is just amazing! The whole band. Everything is just… everything is just amazing. And Mark Judge sees something transcendent in this whole experience. But Lauren Daigle is definitely special. He definitely has a religious view on it, which makes total sense for a Christian singer and songwriter like Lauren Daigle.

Not an atheist, just a bad mystic

Here are some quotes from Mark’s excellent article:

I’ll give you a link to the book and its Amazon page in a moment, so let’s read this.

“Root has read dozens of celebrity autobiographies and secular self-help books, and has reasonably concluded that America is not full of secular atheists, but rather full of mystics. There’s just one problem: without God, modern mystics are not only inadequate, they might even end up in a bad place. Root teaches that healthy mysticism is the mysticism preached by Martin Luther. (As a Catholic, I disagree.)… We need God to truly free us from ourselves and heal us permanently from our sins.”

There’s a link above, you should definitely read this article, it’s a great article. [See show for more content.]
