Running clubs may be the latest fitness trend, but there’s a reason Pilates has been popular with editors, A-list celebrities, and everyone in between for years.

Proven to benefit both the mind and body, Pilates provides a total body workout that works wonders for lengthening, strengthening, firming and toning muscles.

Plus, there’s no denying that Pilates is a fashionable endeavor. From chic sets to sleek bodysuits, Pilates outfits are notoriously stylish. But while you’ve no doubt found the best activewear (if you haven’t, check out our guide here), what your newbie Pilates princess might not know is that, ideally, you should also grab a pair of grip socks. Strictly speaking, grip socks aren’t always required, but many studios recommend wearing them as their non-slip soles provide added stability and traction during class.

Plus, for those who prefer early morning classes, Pilates Grip Socks are your best friend in the winter.

Style Runner Half Crew Studio Socks

Half crew length socks with silicone grip soles. They are functional and stylish at the same time. The best feature is undoubtedly the cushioned feet, which makes them even more comfortable during class and everyday wear.

size: 5-8, 9-11. | color: Onyx, White, Dune. | material: 85% cotton, 12% polyester, 3% elastane.

MoveActive Non-Slip Grip Socks 3-Pack Deco Ombre Collection

Iconic for $67

These low rise, non-slip grip socks are heaven for your feet, and it’s nice that they come in a pack of 3. Made from a breathable cotton blend, they boast built-in compression arch support and PVC grip on the sole for added safety and stability during your Pilates or yoga class.

size: Small, medium. | color: Ombre Pack (Deco Tile, Miami Green Ombre, Watermelon Ombre). | material: 60% cotton, 36% polyester, 4% elastane.

Under Armour Breeze Balance Socks, 2-Pair Set

$30 at Under Armour

Designed specifically for women’s feet, these socks from Under Armour will stay in place throughout class. They hit just below the ankle and feature an exaggerated back tab to prevent your heel from slipping down. The stretchy material not only conforms to the shape of your foot, but also wicks away sweat and dries quickly. Practicality is enhanced by a silicone gripper on the sole, plus recessed arch support to reduce foot fatigue and a seamless toe for superior comfort.

size: Small, medium. | color: Black & Pitch Grey. | material: 95% polyester, 5% elastane.

High Heel Jungle Pilates Grip Socks – Pack of 2

Iconic for $45

Combining full-sole silicone grip and enhanced support with on-trend style, these socks bring ballet core to your Pilates studio. Made from a comfortable cotton blend, they feature a breathable open front and chic satin-like cross elastic.

size: One size fits all. | color: Ballet pink & blush, black & grey. | material: 75% cotton, 15% polyester, 10% spandex.

Grippy Pastel Ankle Ruffle Grippy Socks

$20 for Grippy

This adorable Australian brand promises to add a touch of personality to your exercise routine. Don’t be fooled by the cute colours, these socks are as practical as they are pretty. They’re lined for durability and made from a cotton and spandex blend to hug your feet, and the signature grippy dots on the sole keep you stable and secure during your workout.

size: Extra Small, Small/Medium, Medium/Large. | color: Blue & Pink, Peach & Blue, Lilac & Mint, Lemon & Green, Sage & Pink, Pink & Yellow, Confetti & Blue. | material: Cotton and spandex.

An open-toed version of Bahe’s popular Grip Socks provides stability without sacrificing movement. With a toeless, ankle-length design, the construction of these socks allows your toes to spread and move for better balance and grip on the floor or reformer. The sole has a grippy patterned silicone that makes them perfect for mat-free Pilates and yoga sessions, as well as barre and dance sessions.

size: One size fits all. | color: Oats. material: Cotton Blend.

Do you really need grip socks for Pilates?

No, grip socks are not required for either mat or reformer Pilates, but they can provide added stability during class and give you extra grip when keeping your feet in position.

That being said, studios often require that you wear non-slip socks, so if you wear non-slip socks you’ll have to walk around barefoot.

I resisted Pilates socks for a long time, but after getting curious (pun intended) and buying a pair last year, I’ve never regretted it.
