George Mason University School of Public Health is pleased to announce that Martin Binks, PhD, MBA, will serve as the next dean of the School of Nutrition and Food Sciences, effective August 1, 2024.

Dr. Binks currently serves as a professor in the Department of Nutritional Sciences at Texas Tech University, Chair of the TTU Institutional Review Board, and Founding Director of the University’s Nutrition and Metabolic Health Initiative.

The George Mason University School of Public Health is proud to welcome Dr. Martin Binks as the next Dean of the School of Nutrition and Food Sciences.

He is also an adjunct professor of internal medicine at the TTU Health Sciences Center.Dr. Binks is a highly respected metabolic disease scientist with over 20 years experience and an experienced administrative leader in education, medical care, and clinical program development. Throughout his distinguished career, Dr. Binks has helped thousands of patients with behavioral, pharmacological, and surgical weight loss, health and wellness, and improved quality of life. He is a dedicated mentor to students and trainees at all career stages.

Dr. Binks received his PhD in Clinical Psychology from Fairleigh Dickinson University, where he specialized in behavioral medicine, neuropsychology, and obesity. He completed his training at the Bronx Veterans Affairs Medical Center specializing in neuropsychology and post-traumatic stress disorder, and his pre- and post-doctoral training in behavioral medicine and obesity at the Medical University of South Carolina. He received his MBA from Texas Tech University. Dr. Binks was previously an Assistant Professor in the Department of Medical Psychology at Duke University Medical Center and Director of Behavioral Health, Research, New Ventures and Strategic Partnerships at the Duke Diet & Fitness Center.

Dr. Binks has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications, several book chapters, and a book. Duke DietDr. Binks’ research interests include nutrition, brain health and cognition, behavioral, pharmacological and surgical treatments of metabolic disease, 3D food printing, and nutritional factors in prostate cancer. Dr. Binks is an internationally recognized expert working in print, digital and broadcast media, has served as a peer reviewer for several scientific journals and currently serves as a co-author on the International Journal of Obesity and Obesity science and practice. He previously International Journal of Obesity Served as Deputy Editor Translational Behavioral Medicine Former editor-in-chief, Advances in preventive medicine.

Dr. Binks is an active member of the professional community and holds several notable leadership roles. Obesity Week™. he, Treating obesity seriously Campaign and Obesity Care WeekMartin said, World Obesity Federation and, Obesity CanadaHe is currently Society of Behavioral Medicine (SBM) and the American Society of Nutrition (ASN). He is on the Military Committee. American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) Dr. Binks also said: A Decade of Army National Guard Health and Wounded Warrior He currently serves on several advisory boards. TOS Atkinson Stern Award for Outstanding Public Service on Obesity.
