Canadian singer, songwriter and producer Devin Townsend He guest-starred in a recent episode “Fill the void with Xtina and Tim”a new podcast about mental health, music making, and staying alive. Christina Rowat and Tim CharlesAustralian violinist and clean vocalist NE ObliviscarisYou can listen to the entire 80-minute discussion on Spotify. Some highlights include: Youtube Check out the clip below.

When asked how his personality reflects his mental state, Devin Answer (transcript: Blabber Mouse): “I think it’s a positive thing. I think I’ve realised in the course of doing this work how much of a sense there is of engaging with different emotions on a creative level being a sign of some kind of disorder, rather than the other way around. In my case, my sensitivity to my surroundings, to the world, my family and just in general has always been very sensitive to things, and that manifests as a certain way of feeling, with a very unique character. And I think the desire to express that in music has helped my mental health in that it gives it legitimacy. I think feeling that certain emotions are forbidden for some reason, like anger or sadness or empathy, is far more harmful than recognising that they’re just part of the human experience.”

As for how he “oiled the channel”: Devin “I think in a way it’s something that happens against your will, and my conscious attempt to get out of it and stop participating in it exemplified that. And I think once I realized that it wasn’t a choice, that it was a gift, then the channel was greased after that. And the gift isn’t music or the ability to do it, it’s that life is so short. If you’re really prone to feeling things on a fundamental level, then on some level it’s like an obligation if you can find a way to get past that and stay somewhat balanced. If you can tap into that delusion and make something out of it, something that gives voice to something that people might not be able to express in the same way, then you should do it. I mean, you should make music if you can, you should make art if you can. And not do that. That’s what I realized in trying to get out of music. If you do that, it’s only counterproductive. So it’s just greased for me when life just nudges me in the direction of my innocence and says, ‘Look, you’re a kid. So get over it.'”

Townsend He has made unique forays into many different styles of music throughout his career, spanning more than three decades, always following his own inspirations.

Devin The latest album was released “Light Work”due for release in October 2022. The LP, along with a companion album of B-sides and demos, was created from a wealth of material written during the pandemic. “Night work” — Represented Devin His reflections on what he (and many of us) are experiencing at this stage of life, post-pandemic.

for “Light Work”, Devin He decided to see what would happen if he brought in a producer to help him select the material (an experiment he had been wanting to try for some time). Garth Richardson We will help you make this idea a reality.

Devin He was discovered by a record company shortly after graduating from high school and asked to sing lead vocals, thus beginning his professional career. Steve VaiAlbum “Sex and Religion”Through tours and recordings Vai, Townsend Disheartened by what was happening in the music industry, he produced several solo albums under different names. Robust Young Man. since then, Devin They have recorded numerous hit albums and performed all over the world.
