HYDERABAD: Drugs Control Agency (DCA) officials have seized overpriced medicines in Asifabad district. During a search at a medicine shop, the officials seized anti-fungal drug Zytaz PT Injection (Piperacillin & Tazobactam Injection IP), which was being sold at an overpriced price of ₹ 146. The injection, manufactured by Prosperity 6 Pharmaceutics Ltd, Himachal Pradesh, was found to have been sold in price violations. Though the label of the injection, containing 4000mg piperacillin and 500mg tazobactam, had ₹ 546 printed on it, the actual ceiling price of the drug was ₹ 399. Even including GST, the medicine was overpriced by ₹ 98 per vial. “The company has sold the product at an overpriced price. The company has charged an overcharge of ₹ 98.84 per vial, which is in violation of the Drugs (Price Control) Order, 2013. Further investigation is on and action will be taken as per law against all violators,” DCA said on Saturday. In another raid at a shop in Narayanpet, DCA officials seized Ayurvedic medicine ‘Ayu RC’ syrup for misleadingly advertising it as treating kidney stones.
