WHEELING, W.Va. (WTRF) — Today marks the start of Ogden Wellness Weekend with an exciting day of racing.
Racers from across the country are lacing up their running shoes and taking part in the 46th annual Ogden Newspapers Half Marathon Classic Run and Walk.
Organizers say the run will start at 7:15 a.m. and the walk will start at 7:30 a.m. and that race towels, bottled water and fresh fruit will be provided, as well as meal vouchers for all participants.
Participants who preregistered were guaranteed a shirt, and the race committee ensured that an official race medal would be presented to each finisher of the 45th Annual Ogden Newspapers Half Marathon Classic Run and Walk.
The winners of the Open Run (male and female) will receive the following prizes:
- 1st place – $1,125
- 2nd place – $875
- 3rd place – $625
- 4th place – $375
The Open Walk winners (male and female) will receive the following prizes:
- 1st place – $200
- 2nd place – $150
- 3rd place – $100
The 5K run and 5K walk, hosted by WVU Medicine Children’s Hospital, will start at 7:45 a.m. and 7:50 a.m., respectively, according to organizers.
The winners of the Open Run (male and female) will receive the following prizes:
- 1st place – $75
- 2nd place – $50
- 3rd place – $40
The Open Walk winners (male and female) will receive the following prizes:
- 1st place – $75
- 2nd place – $50
- 3rd place – $40
The Tiny Tot Trot, hosted by WVU Medicine Children’s, begins at 10:30 a.m. on Water Street near Heritage Port.
First up is the race for 4 and 5 year olds, followed by the race for 3 and under.
Organizers say all participants will receive a finisher ribbon.
The Ogden Fun Run, hosted by WVU Medicine Children’s, will begin at 8:30 a.m. for children ages 12 and under. Parents can run with their children for free or pay $15 to receive a T-shirt. Children’s entry fee is $20, and all participants who pre-register are guaranteed a T-shirt.
The Fun Run race will begin at the start/finish line on 14th Street and run from 14th Street to Eoff Street.
The course will run up 14th Avenue to Eoff Street, where runners will turn left to head north on Eoff Street, then head west on 11th Avenue. Runners will then head down the hill next to the Wheeling YWCA, cross Chapline Street to Market Street, where they will turn right to head north to 10th Avenue, turn left on 10th Avenue to Main Street, then turn left on Main Street to head south.
The trail then turns right onto 11th Street at Bobo the Elephant in Heritage Port Gateway Park, then turns left onto Water Street. The trail continues down Water Street for 300 yards.
