A new website has been launched to help Christians get involved in the general election campaign.
It was devised by social policy charity CARE to help people of all denominations think, act and pray before they vote.
It includes practical tools, theology and prayer resources, podcasts, blogs and interviews. CARE CEO Ross Hendry told Premier Christian News that this period is “a wonderful opportunity for us to grow spiritually” and a chance to reflect on “how we live life together, how God’s Word applies to all of life, and how that reflects on our responsibility to be good citizens in the country God has placed us in.”
“This is a really exciting opportunity for spiritual growth and we want to share that excitement with believers across the UK, equipping them, empowering them and even inspiring them to get involved in politics in a different way than just voting.”
Hendry said he believes Christians have a biblical responsibility to vote and to be good stewards. To him, voting is an opportunity “to not just think about ourselves and our own interests when it comes to voting, but to really think about how our vote reflects our love for our neighbor. It’s also a declaration of God’s sovereignty over our country and our democracy.”
The site also features a quiz to help Christians find out which political party they belong to, and a 40-day prayer journal video for churches.
Mr Hendry told the Premier that despite widespread apathy towards politics, Christians should believe in the potential for politics to do good.
“As followers of Jesus, we must stay engaged even when we feel discouraged, so that we can seek the good of our neighbors and reflect the greater good of the Bible in the culture around us.”
“It’s a blessing that God has given us and it’s a privilege to be able to do this and play a role in reflecting what we believe God is speaking to every area of life.”
