Hyderabad: Telangana Drugs Controller General (DCA) officials seized Ayurvedic medicines making false claims of treating diabetes and pneumonia during a special raid on Thursday, May 23. The medicines were found to be distributed in the market with misleading claims on their labels, in violation of the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954.
During a special search operation to uncover medicines being sold in the market with misleading and objectionable advertisements, DCA officials found an Ayurvedic medicine, Ortho Win Gold Oil, manufactured by Pharma Research Lab, Indore, Madhya Pradesh. The product label bears a misleading claim of being a treatment for pneumonia, DCA DG VB Kamalasan Reddy said.
The Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954 prohibits the advertising of certain drugs for the treatment of certain diseases or disorders. No person shall be permitted to be involved in publishing advertisements in respect of diseases or disorders specified under the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954.
The stock of these medicines was seized during a raid conducted at a medicine shop in Gandipet, Rangareddy district. Anyone who makes misleading advertisements regarding medicines for treating any particular disease or disorder is punishable with imprisonment for a term up to six months, or with fine, or with both.
